Woring... working... working... - 8/25/08
Besides the annoying and sometimes frustrating work that is my official job, I.ve been doing some moderately interesting stuff. To name a few things: 64-bit linux, better remote desktop, backup, additional database app (recipes).

I.m also seriously considering switching to a linux desktop. Currently I use XP as my desktop, with linux as storage/server/heavy lifter, but there are fewer and fewer reasons to remain with a windows desktop. The only thing preventing me from switching today is the lack of a decent video card in my linux box.

...I sense a Newegg order in my future...

I'm Bored - 7/9/07
I suppose I should have added this update in 3 days, but I'm bored and have nothing bettter to do. Various minor additions/changes: find them for yourself if you are bored too.

I've been mainly working on my database skills, organizing and cataloging. Almost like a spring cleaning, but, well, in the summer. Maybe someday I'll make something so awesome that someone besides me will find it useful. We'll see.

Learn Linux Later - 7/12/06
I've started a new project: how to learn about Linux! This hasn't been done a million times, so it'll be something completely new. The new page can be found on the sidebar.

Frequent Updates - 4/30/06
As you may be able to tell, I update this page frequently. This update is to tell you, my many loyal readers, about my new server. It's not actually new, being about 2 years old, but I have just finished some exciting updates for it. Those include a much better firewall, updated software, and, uh, that's it.

For those interested in my personal life, I'm now working for Intel. It's ok- good pay and interesting work. I'm also trying to be better about administering my e-mail server so I'm writing some scripts to stay on top of things. Note that my e-mail has changed to dsmall (at) dsmall.com.

If I feel really productive, I may put a webpage up on the top domain, so that all the spiders and other bots can have something interesting to look at.

Always Late - 8/29/03
I'm finally done (well, mostly) with the spider part of the network mapper. So basically I have a database of all the shared files (I hope I'm not missing any) on the network which nobody can use, how nice. I promise to work on the interface so that people can actually use the mapper, but since I'm lazy that may take a while. Then again, I may get bored to death and actually work on it sometime soon, you never know.

I'm back at school, so things should get interesting shortly. Bleh.

Backend - 6/7/03
So, with a redesign of the page (The boxes on the right are new), I am proud to present version 2 of my web page. There may be no content still, but it sure looks nice!

I did add a desktop, featuring CTS. If you don't know what the CTS is, you'll just have to download the desktop and discover for yourself. I should mention that the desktop comes from comics written by someone else, but since I'm not into giving proper credit, I won't.

On to more interesting, and possibly less stupid, things: I have finished the first version of my network searcher backend. Basically I can search my local subnet for windows shares, and if they're setup exactly how I think they should be, I can map them into a database. Pretty cool, huh? Next I need to setup the interface to the database, so that other people can actually use the tool. But since it's still in the middle of summer, I still have plenty of time to work on it while I'm supposed to be doing stuff for my boss (having a fortress-like cubical rocks).

I swear I'll get some content in soon. Trust me.

UPDATE - 1:59 AM
Oh yeah, the network mapper project is named 'Slither'. Don't ask.

7|/\|0 - 5/23/03
So the page is finally looking ok. I need some content, but if I just type enough random things like this, I'll be good in no time!

First off, a few acknowledgements for the sites which I got design ideas from: Penny Arcade and
[H]ard|OCP. Not that you can tell since both of those sites are… well, lets just say they’re ‘better’.

Next, along with the real content, I'll be setting up the network mapper which will be the best thing to come to the mudd network (other people may have different opinions). Oh, and if you have any interesting things you think I should put in my links section (such as your website) let me know.

First Post - 4/23/03
This is the first version of my new web page. Soon I hope to include the network mapper I have been working on, as well as actual content. We'll see how it goes.

USELESS

This is a message box: it holds useless nuggets of information that I see fit to add. Perhaps in the future I'll get around to implementing some useful functionality, such as news headings from intersting sites. Then again, maybe not.
